The City of Northport Business License Department is responsible for all facets of managing Business Licensing for businesses located in or engaged in business in the city limits and police jurisdiction (3 miles outside Northport city limits). It is important to note that businesses located outside of Northport yet conducting business in Northport must purchase a business license.
The type of license that will be issued will be based on the nature of your business. After information is provided to our License Officer it can determined which type of license is required.
Any business physically located within the city limits or police jurisdiction will be required to have the business location approved through a Code Compliance Certificate. This certificate can be picked up in the License Office and details will be provided at that time.
The cost of the initial license is based on estimated gross receipts from the time you open until December 31st. Licenses are renewable from January 1st through February 15th. A 15% penalty will be assessed beginning February 16th continuing until March 15th. A 30% penalty will be assessed after March 15th. Interest of 1% on each month delinquent will also be assessed.
