The City of Northport provides the following benefits for its employees after completion of ninty (90) days of employment, with the exception of vacation, holidays, and longevity, as explained below:

HEALTH INSURANCE

a) Medical-Blue Cross (Includes Vision Plan):

  • Single Plan-City pays $135 per month
  • Single Plan-Employee pays $95 per month
  • Family Plan-City pays $379 per month
  • Family Plan-Employee pays $178 per month

b) Dental-Blue Cross:

  • City pays $14 per month
  • Single Plan-No Charge
  • Family Plan-Employee pays $25 per month

LIFE INSURANCE-$10,000

  • City pays $3.60 per month
  • Employee only-No Charge
  • Employees may purchase additional life insurance at a group rate through payroll deduction.

SICK LEAVE
Sick Leave is addressed in the Leave Policy that was passed by the Northport City Council in June 2009.

VACATION
Vacation is addressed in the Leave Policy that was passed by the Northport City Council in June 2009.

HOLIDAYS
Employees receive ten (10) paid holidays per year.

  • Thanksgiving
  • Day after Thanksgiving
  • Christmas Eve
  • Christmas Day

Employees will be eligible for holidays 
immediately upon employment. Holidays will be
taken or scheduled according to departmental
policy.

RETIREMENT
Administrative Employee contributes 5%, Police and Fire Employees contribute 6% after certification, and the City Contributes 4.57% per pay period.

LONGEVITY PAY
Paid out on the first pay period in December:

  • 5 years of employment through 9 years $400
  • 10 years of employment through 14 years $500
  • 15 years of employment through 19 years $600
  • 20 years of employment or more $700

  • Single Membership - $100 initial fee/$44 monthly
  • Couple Membership - $125 initial fee/$59 monthly
