Situated north of the Black Warrior River in west-central Alabama and adjoining the Tuscaloosa, AL metropolitan area, the City of Northport is a swiftly growing residential and business community of nearly 20,000. The Northport Police Department is a full service law enforcement agency consisting of 66 sworn Officers and approximately 25 support personnel. Our Officers provide a wide array of services to the Community. You will find much information on these services within this website.

During application periods, you will find a notice posted on the city's Current Job Postings page with instructions on how to apply (follow this link to the Current Job Postings page).  After hiring, each Officer must successfully complete (or have previously completed) mandatory Alabama Peace Officers Standards and Training Commission minimum standards Academy training and an intensive in-house Field Training Program. Monthly professional development training is also provided in-house to all Officers. In addition to full time sworn Officers, the Police Department also has periodic openings for Communications Dispatchers and also hires retired (in good standing) APOSTC certified Officers who serve part-time as front desk Officers at the Police Department.
